Discover the Spirit of Nagoya“The Lord of Nagoya – Tokugawa Yoshinao” A New Cultural Stage for International Visitors Premiering March 28 at Nagoya Noh Theater

Nagoya, a city shaped by samurai heritage and refined cultural traditions, proudly presents a new cultural experience created especially for international visitors:
“The Lord of Nagoya – Tokugawa Yoshinao.”

Tokugawa Yoshinao, the first Lord of the Owari Domain and founder of the Owari Tokugawa lineage, played a pivotal role in establishing Nagoya as a political and cultural center during the Edo period. His legacy remains deeply woven into the identity of the city today.

This immersive stage production invites travelers to encounter Nagoya’s samurai history through the elegance of Japanese traditional performing arts. Blending historical narration with the resonant beauty of the koto (Japanese harp), the performance offers an authentic cultural experience that goes beyond sightseeing — a moment of living history.

Created and performed by Rie Asai, the stage features expressive storytelling and live koto music. Through the intimate fusion of voice and strings, the life, vision, and spirit of Tokugawa Yoshinao are brought vividly to life. Designed with international audiences in mind, the performance transcends language barriers and provides visitors with a deeper emotional connection to Nagoya’s heritage.

The premiere will take place on March 28 at the Nagoya Noh Theater Rehearsal Hall, an esteemed venue dedicated to Japan’s classical performing arts. Situated in the heart of the city, it offers travelers a rare opportunity to experience authentic Japanese culture in a traditional setting.

As Nagoya continues to grow as a destination for global travelers, this new inbound stage aims to become a cultural highlight — an unforgettable journey into samurai history, music, and refined artistry.
